Toward Real-World Application of Circular Livestock Systems through Metabolic Programming and Smart Grazing

A Circular Society Led by the Digital Native Generation that Sustains the Value of Food for the Future

Guided by the vision of creating a circular society led by the digital-native generation that sustains the value of food for the future and connects the Earth and life through cattle, we propose the following initiatives:

  • Establish a next-generation agricultural model led by the digital native generation—key drivers of the future and raised alongside digital technologies—that sustainably maintains rural landscapes and ecosystems while enabling robust and smart production of safe and reliable food.
  • Establish an integrated platform for livestock production and education, and develop a “grass-fed Wagyu” production system that combines advanced bioscience with digital technologies. In parallel, build a practice-oriented educational model that integrates environmental studies, circular systems, and agribusiness. Through these combined efforts, create a new livestock system that bridges education and industry, and establish an innovative hub for livestock technology education and research where the digital-native generation can work with pride.
  • Promote structural reform of the livestock industry through data-driven management and value-added production, enabling digital-native farmers to have hope for the future and compete effectively in international markets.
  • Establish a community platform where farmers, local residents, and external talent interact and collaborate. At its core is the “Boarding Place,” a hub for co-creating the future of food and local communities. This hub serves as a center for talent development, social implementation, and value creation.
  • As the coordinating municipalities, Shiraoi Town and Hokkaido, and with Shikishima Farm Co., Ltd. serving as the coordinating organization, the development of this co-creation hub is promoted in collaboration with six universities, two municipalities, and ten participating companies.
  • Empower the digital-native generation to build next-generation livestock systems by leveraging advanced bioscience and smart grazing management technologies. This effort aims to realize an innovative society grounded in improved quality of life and a new model of regional agri-industry. It also supports the creation and dissemination of “a society free from hunger, environmentally sustainable, and proud of its local communities,” and leads to the establishment of the “Grass-Fed Wagyu Village,” a new platform for learning and practice that integrates hands-on experience with scientific inquiry.

This project aims to establish a circular livestock industry by integrating scientific innovation—centered on metabolic programming—with environmentally sustainable production through smart grazing. It also seeks to co-create value with local communities.
